Principal's Message

Welcome back to Memorial Intermediate School and the 2016-2017 school year. I am Mrs. Rodriguez, the principal on campus. I am so excited to be back and be part of all the wonderful things that are going on at Memorial.

As we move into the year, we are focusing on student learning and attendance. We know that students who have good attendance perform better in classes and on exams. Please make sure to check the student handbook for policies and procedures regarding student absences.

This year we have adopted a "HERO" theme. At Memorial, HERO stands for Helping Each other Reach Our goals. Some important aspects of this are school attendance, respecting adults/peers, and the value of hard work. We started off the year with a HERO assembly where we discussed the importance of homework and working together to reach our goals. We will continue to have HERO assemblies throughout the year where we focus on different things. Families are encouraged to help by:

"Sending your child to school EVERY day and ON TIME"
"Making sure your child gets enough sleep each night"
"Keep in touch with your child's teacher via email or your child's planner"
"Attend school-wide functions (PTA meetings, parent nights, etc.)"

Remember, it does take a village to raise a child and we here at Memorial are ready and willing to do our part. Please help us make your child as successful as possible. I am excited to see what great things our kids will accomplish this year as we work together as a TEAM.
Yours in education,
Kim Rodriguez

Map Your Career with Geographic Information Systems
Map Your Career with Geographic Information Systems
Memorial Intermediated G.t. students participated in the Map Your Career with Geographic Information Systems event at the Del Mar College Economic Development Center. GIS is a computer software that links geographic information with descriptive information. GIS can help a farmer treat only the crops that need treating by flying a drone over his crops and analyzing the information collected. If the drone is not used, the farmer has to physically walk the whole terrain or treat all crops. GIS is used by businesses, military, builders, government, law enforcements, education and the list goes on. Our students made Memorial proud by continuously asking questions and by having our very own 5th grader, Nicholas Lopez answer a question during one of the sessions that the audience which consisted of area high school students could not answer. He received a round of applause. Way to go Nicolas! We ended our trip by enjoying lunch at Whataburger.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
